And, progressives think we should model U.S. public transportation after it because they see nationwide high-speed rail as a superior and more efficient system than the personal use of cars. But, if we tried to map this out, hypothetically, how exactly would this be accomplished? Does the federal government just seize private land from Americans to build the infrastructure? The fact is [most] Americans love the freedom automobiles offer and do for a variety of reasons: 1️⃣ You can hop in your car or truck at any time of day and drive wherever you want. You are on your own schedule and don’t have to wait for the train. 2️⃣ You can stop where you want and when you want rather than having to backtrack or go a little extra further on foot or by uber / taxi. 3️⃣ You can choose your passengers as opposed to being forced to ride in a crammed space with hundreds of people you don’t know, including drug addicts and violent criminals who will try to mug you. 4️⃣ You can take whatever you want with you (including a firearm for protection) in your car, but trains have restrictions. The only major superlative high-speed rail has is avoiding traffic in urban areas, and it might be cheaper than gas on a mileage basis. But, the U.S. is larger and more rural than European countries, so building a nationwide high-speed rail network just isn’t ideal.
