Mined in India and passed between Persian, Mughal, Afghan, and Sikh rulers, the Koh-i-Noor was seized by the British East India Company in 1849, after annexing Punjab.

It was gifted—under duress—to Queen Victoria.

Since then, it's adorned British crowns, most recently Queen Elizabeth’s mother’s coronation crown.
