Okay, what people do in their personal time should not matter to their colleagues at work. But are we really two human beings - one personal and another professional? The values we carry should apply to all aspects of our life. If one is unethical in their personal dealings can they be expected to be ethical in their work life? Is that ‘switch’ really possible? Office romance is not new, neither is infidelity. But don’t think they have to celebrated, accepted or ignored as free choice, personal matters. How can one take claims of company values and ‘uncompromising integrity’ in the CVs seriously? I had not heard of the company before this incident. I am not the target audience but nevertheless when I think of the brand now, is it in a positive context? ‘Any publicity is good publicity’ goes out of the window again. Did the company brand and its employees deserve all the mocking, online scrutiny and brutal trolling? What impact will it have on its paying customers? Some said that if only they ‘acted’ normal and did not flinch when the cameras were turned on them, things would not have blown up. But the fact they did flinch instinctively showed they were uncomfortable about the nature of their relationship. Or it being made public. In these days of social shaming - any statement, comment or behaviour in the ‘public space’ (and I would include social media in that) invites scrutiny. Spare a thought for the spouses & children of both the parties involved. As an aside, the parody takes and jibes were truly LOL.
