These people are not Gojam Amhara. They are Mandinka. 
The Mandinka (also known as Malinke or Mandingo) are a major West African ethnic group, with a population of about XX million across West Africa, primarily in Mali, Guinea, and The Gambia, where they make up roughly 30-40% of the population. They are descendants of the Mali Empire, which flourished from the 13th to 16th centuries under leaders like Sundiata Keita. The Mandinka are predominantly Muslim (over XX% today), speak Manding languages (part of the Mande language family), and are known for their rich oral traditions preserved by griots (storytellers). Their traditional society is stratified into castes (nobles, artisans, griots, and formerly slaves), and they practice subsistence farming, growing crops like rice, millet, and peanuts.
