His change was 86-88, X seam 88-90, X seam/sinker 90-92. His first pitch tonight was an XXXX MPH X seam. There’s not enough heat on the heater, and there’s not enough difference between the FB and change. So that change isn’t disrupting timing much No one fears those pitches so they sit on the slider (83 mph slider isn’t exactly terrifying either to a MLB hitter.) It may be time to have the Eckersley talk with him and see if he is able to handle being a reliever. It’s not always easier in the arm for everyone, but it may be time to find out. Because LMJ has been awful as a start and his low velos aren’t helping him a 2nd time through the lineup let alone a 3rd Maybe going just one inning he can let it fly more and bump his velo up a bit but something has to give. He’s getting less effective and not more XX pitches and couldn’t get out of 3rd. His ERA is up to XXXX He should not be in the rotation once Arrighetti returns - and this puts extra pressure on Arrighetti to return asap because LMJ sadly in unstartable right now. In fact Gusto should be replacing LMJ in the rotation right now This is hard to watch bc LMJ has always come back from injury and pitched like his old self, but his velocity is completely tanked right now and it’s not MLB worthy.
