A private company enforcing its terms of service is not the state. A government using the FCC to threaten broadcast licenses, defunding public media by executive order, and banning reporters from the White House *is* the state.

Since Jan 2025, the admin has moved to defund NPR, threatened CBS's broadcast licenses, and earned a court order for banning the AP. The White House even launched its own "Rapid Response" account in March to explicitly "hold the Fake Media accountable." This isn't a debate; it's a documented strategy.

When the state itself becomes the chief critic of a free press, the goal isn't accountability. It's control.
