But Kendrick Perkins says they didn’t make progress. After signing Bradley Beal to a 2-year deal, LA looked like a superteam, on paper. But on mic, Big Perk didn’t hold back. “It doesn’t do anything for me,” Perkins said. “It shouldn’t have been breaking news, just NBA news.” To Perk, the problem isn’t Beal’s résumé, it's the fit. Once a 30-point-per-game machine in Washington, Beal’s impact faded in Phoenix as he struggled to adapt to a reduced role behind Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Now with the Clippers, he’s expected to do the same, this time behind Harden, Kawhi, and even Ivica Zubac. And that’s the issue. “Four years ago, he was in the convo with Book, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell… Now he’s the fourth option on a team that’s only getting older,” Perk said. “They’re not better than OKC, Dallas, Denver, Golden State.” The Clippers didn’t need another scorer past his prime. They needed grit, defense, and sacrifice. And Beal, in his current state, just isn’t that guy.
