Even if you’re scientific, the Uncanny Valley theory makes sense. A Thing that looks human, but is slightly wrong? Candidates:

1) other human species (Denisovans, erectus, Neanderthal)

2) a psychopath or insane human (behavior “wrong”)

3) a diseased human (rabid, worn-down, etc.)

There is survival value in avoiding all of these. Hence the Uncanny Valley.

Of course there’s the true origin of the Uncanny Valley - avoiding skinwalkers & doppelgangers.
