A theory I’ve heard is all luxury/boutique hotels tried to differentiate the experience with shower settings (spa-like, rainfall, multi-contorls).

This shower arms race led to design creep in lower-end hotels too and now no one can actually shower

When you need instructions for a shower, that’s prob a tell things are effed.
