Shams Charania reports that the Phoenix Suns and the Milwaukee Bucks were also reportedly interested in Smart and received permission to speak with him. Smart, 31, will be subject to waivers, and after he clears waivers, he will sign a two-year contract worth $XX million that will carry a player option for the second year. The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year was traded to the Washington Wizards (from Memphis) at the NBA Trade Deadline this past February as part of a three-team deal including the Sacramento Kings. In a limited time with Washington, Smart finished the season averaging XXX PPG and XXX APG in fifteen games. To finalize the deal for Smart, the Los Angeles Lakers will use their full biannual exception and will need to clear $XXX million in cap space in order to have full use of the exception.
