Senegal Launches Groundbreaking LNG-to-Power Initiative Off Dakar Coast

Senegal has achieved a continental milestone with the successful launch of Africa's first operational LNG-to-power project. National utility Senelec partnered with Turkish energy firm Karpowership to begin generating electricity offshore Dakar using an innovative floating system.
The project utilizes a floating storage and regasification unit to supply LNG to Karpowership's KPS XX powership, with power generation officially commencing on April XX. This followed Senegal's first-ever ship-to-ship LNG transfer between the FSRU LNGT Africa and a supply vessel.
The LNGT Africa, developed by shipbuilder Seatrium and owned by joint venture Karmol, has been stationed in Senegal since 2021. It connects via pipeline to the Karadeniz Powership Ayşegül Sultan, which has supplied electricity to the national grid since 2019.
With current installed capacity of XXX MW, Karpowership's floating power assets now account for approximately XX% of Senegal's total electricity supply, demonstrating the viability of innovative offshore power generation solutions.
