It’s just a clash in perspectives that are incompatible. I think it’s just a fundamental incompatibility in thinking between long term fans of a sport or team, and the newer age of fandoms that seem more oriented towards personality/celebrity individualism rather than team or sport focus. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with either view, they’re just different. But when the focus or belief is that an individual is bigger than the entity thats the reason we even know who they are? The conversation gets labored and unproductive. And it’s everyone’s own prerogative how they want to align their fandom. But it is an interesting dynamic to speak on - because there’s a repeated cycle of this in so many major sports, with superstar athletes who become “bigger than the sport”… then they leave the sport, and things keep moving on incredibly well without them, affirming the viewpoint wasn’t necessarily true.
