Maybe you can extend the graph further into the past, keep downplaying any intermediate inflections, and flatten its aspect ratio some more and you will attain a perfectly flat horizon.

This graph tells you NOTHING...  because it is purposely designed to show NOTHING.

We are looking for SIGNAL, not trend. Developers of high school graphs consistently fail to understand what that professional term means.
