It has been confirmed that these items originated from Ankara and were destined for Mogadishu—specifically for a newly arrived Turkish-trained unit. A written document, revised today and submitted to Somalia’s Ministry of Defence—seen by the Media, reference number 00234/25 and dated 02.05.2025—details the types of weapons involved and includes several attached memos. The shipment, which includes both light and heavy arms as well as military vehicles, is said to be part of a three-part consignment reportedly intended for a special force housed at Hiilweyne camp. These are troops personally designated by President Hassan Sheikh, who has previously been warned by opposition figures about arming such units. Additionally, Somali businessmen with close ties to Turkey—one of whom is represented by a sitting Federal Government minister—reportedly loaded the ship with over XXXXX pistols and other weapons, some of which were allegedly meant to be resold in Mogadishu’s black market.
