For context: the entire highway was originally built in just three to four years, between 1950 and 1954 - without today’s technology, without armies of consultants, and without billion-dollar burn pits disguised as “budgets.” We’ve gone from building highways in four years to endlessly “upgrading” them for twenty, all while delivering less and costing more. That’s why nobody trusts this government to get anything done. The expressway was supposed to improve access to the airport. Now it’s just a permanent construction site named after Robert Anderson Van Wyck, the first mayor of the consolidated New York City.
