2/25 In the mid-1970s, the RAF needed a radar to counter Soviet bombers like the Tu-95 “Bear” and Tu-22M “Backfire,” capable of nuclear strikes over the North Sea. The Tornado Air Defence Variant (ADV) was chosen, requiring a radar with beyond-visual-range (BVR) capabilities, all-weather performance, and look-down/shoot-down to detect low-flying targets. The AI.24 Foxhunter was born to meet these demands.
