What Does the GENIUS Act Do? 

Regulates Issuers: Only approved entities (banks, fintechs, or state/federal-regulated firms) can issue stablecoins, ensuring oversight.  

1:1 Reserve Requirement: Issuers must hold liquid assets (cash or U.S. Treasuries) equal to the value of issued coins to prevent collapses like Terra-Luna in 2022.  

Consumer Protections: Mandates monthly audits, anti-money laundering (AML) rules, and priority repayment for coin holders in case of issuer bankruptcy. 
 
Transparency: Issuers must disclose reserve assets to build trust.
