Espresso: A New Layer for Rollup Coordination

While most projects focus on scaling individual chains, Espresso is solving a different problem, how to coordinate them.

Espresso provides a decentralized, shared sequencer that rollups can plug into without needing to run their own, It uses HotShot consensus to deliver super fast finality, giving apps near instant confidence in cross rollup and through atomic transaction inclusion, it enables things like cross rollup swaps and bridging trustlessly and composably.

No other protocol combines sequencing, finality, data availability, and atomicity into a single, cohesive system, espresso isn’t competing with chains, it’s connecting them. Espresso doesn’t aim to replace L1s or rollups, It sits above them as a neutral coordination layer giving every chain fast, verifiable state that can be referenced by others, It allows rollups to sync in real time, securely, and without relying on external relayers, oracles, or fragile messaging bridges.

Why Espresso Is a First Mover

Espresso is already live on mainnet, it’s not a concept or a plan in motion, It’s the first system to integrate;

→ Shared sequencing
→ Verifiable data availability
→ BFT consensus
→ Cross rollup atomicity

All in one modular, production ready framework, that’s why there’s no direct comparison or competition, espresso isn’t just solving one piece of the puzzle, it’s building the foundation for a connected, composable future of Web3
