Gen. Winthai Suvaree, spokesman for the Royal Thai Army, addressed the situation following an incident where military personnel were injured by a landmine during a patrol in the Chong Bok border area of Ubon Ratchathani Province. He referred to the explanation from Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the Second Army Region, regarding the results of the inspection of the incident site by the Demining Unit 3, which indicated that eight new landmines were laid in Thai territory. This act violates the Ottawa Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction. Even though the Cambodian side has not accepted this, the unit will report the facts to the Army and the government to protest through the UN. Additionally, preparations are underway to send troops to inspect the area and clear mines along the border, alongside implementing appropriate military countermeasures. Regarding the incident, General Panah Klaewplodtook, Commander of the Royal Thai Army, expressed his deepest sorrow for what happened, stating that the Army's personnel are like family members. Immediately upon learning of the incident, he ordered their respective units to closely monitor their medical treatment, as well as to fully provide rights and welfare to the personnel and their families. He affirmed that the injured personnel and their families would be cared for in the best possible way, as the Royal Thai Army has always been concerned about the feelings of the families and close associates of its personnel. The Army Chief further stated that military unit patrols are proactive measures that are effective in inspecting and maintaining border areas to prevent incursions. However, this may come with risks, which all operating officers are well aware of and are ready to dedicate their full efforts to the mission of protecting the nation's sovereignty. The clear evidence from the inspection of the incident site indicates that the landmines causing the incident were newly laid. This information is a crucial component supporting Thailand's justification in taking retaliatory measures against Cambodia, both militarily and diplomatically, he was quoted as saying. The Royal Thai Army reaffirms that it will perform its duty to protect the sovereignty and honor of the nation with prudence and based on facts, to be accepted by the global community and not become a target for distortion by ill-intentioned parties. Importantly, the Army is well aware that the people of Thailand and Cambodia are not adversaries. The tension arising in the border area is not a conflict between the people of the two countries and should not be misinterpreted to escalate into mutual hatred. Regarding border checkpoints, the Army Chief emphasized that Thailand has not "closed" any checkpoints. It is merely an increase in the strictness of screening measures for individuals and a more appropriate adjustment of entry and exit times. However, during this sensitive period, communication in society, especially on social media, can unintentionally lead to misunderstandings or create division. The Army Chief asks society to trust the operational officers, as everyone is dedicating themselves and sacrificing to serve on the front lines for all of us. Encouragement from society can be like a priceless gift, and national unity is the most important thing at this time. #Thailand #Cambodia XXXXX engagements **Related Topics** [royal thai](/topic/royal-thai) [cambodia](/topic/cambodia) [thailand](/topic/thailand) [Post Link](https://x.com/KhaosodEnglish/status/1946530897924419961)
