Cheap labor vs. quality.
If a craftsman gets paid more but does a better job in half the time,  the company wins.
I had friends that flipped houses. They hired the guys they picked up at 7-11. They would work a couple of days and leave. As soon as they were paid the half upfront , they took off. It cost them time and money. The quality was poor.
The contractor ended up doing most of the work over again.
Pay a true craftsman more, and the results will be worth it in most cases.
