But after the Government Pension Fund spent R1.2 billion to hand it over to the BEE consortium AfPo, led by Kholofelo Maponya, everything changed. Under Maponya’s leadership, the farm was driven into the ground. By early this year, the Public Investment Corporation had already burned through R1.7 billion of workers’ pension money trying to "save" this failed project. Then, in May 2025, another R250 million was pumped in—yet the farm couldn’t even afford to feed its chickens. The result? A national scandal. The SPCA had to step in after thousands of starving chickens turned to cannibalism, with over XXXXXXX birds ultimately euthanised. The GEPF responded this week by, you guessed it, throwing another R150 million at this complete failure. This is how a world-class South African success story was destroyed—at YOUR expense.
