While in Halawa Correctional Facility, he was beaten by inmates on May 12, hospitalized briefly, and moved to protective custody. He pleaded not guilty on May XX. By June 2025, talks of a plea deal emerged, and on July 10, a judge ordered a mental health exam, delaying his trial set for July XX. As of now, the case remains ongoing, with California victims calling his early release a "system failure" that put more people at risk.
