Nazis forced the women in the camps to get pregnant and give birth so they could launch the babies in the air with giant sling-shot like devices called the "die Juden Schleuder," and then take turns using the flying children as target practice. The scene in Schindler's List where Amon Göth is shooting prisoners off his balcony is inspired by this practice. But the director didn't want to depict the children as it was too graphic. Germans were forcing the women prisoners to breed just so they could use their children as targets. There was even a competition in October of 1942 where members of the Hitler Youth would try launch a camp child the furthest to win an award. This is where the idea of launching pumpkins at Halloween came from.
