My process is rather simple. I start with data, data and more data i.e. use all of the X or tiny discretion edges I have, until I have a clear sense of direction. And I have more than enough edge to always give me a good sense of direction today. If there is a point where I don't, I look for more data until I am satisfied. It is true though that experience gives the right discretion over time, but I try to keep that to a minimal. Once that is set and done, it does take some sense of being in tune to make a final decision and check in from time to time to be ready to adapt. But not the other way around. XX% data, XX% intuition and refining. I don't really believe that trading on intuition only works, at least not on a consistent basis. I like to build my buildings on strong foundations and am okay if I plant the flag at the top wrong so that it falls off. The Eiffel Tower is built with a whole lot of math to make sure it's safe, and a little bit of guesswork and hope that it will look nice in the end.
