$JPY 10s30s curve has steepened from 90bps in Feb to 155bps on the close this week. About half of this was due to the surge in rice inflation which saw core/core CPI print at XXX% yesterday. The other half is due to worries about fiscal policy as  Japan’s ruling coalition faces mounting pressure ahead of the July XX upper house election, with recent polling suggesting the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its junior partner Komeito could fall short of the XX seats needed to retain their majority. Markets will be thin on Monday as Tokyo will be closed for the Marine Day holiday so we will have to watch $USDJPY for clues on JGB reaction.
