Obviously, Mercedes don’t believe Lewis is bigger than Mercedes, right? I mean, clearly. Exhibit A.

Likewise, without building the best car, Ferrari doesn’t experience the Schumacher era of success. It took them several years to get the car there while he was there.

On the flip side of the same coin, if Mercedes pull off a repeat of their turbo hybrid engine dominance, it doesn’t matter who they have in the car anymore than it did from 2014-2020, they’ll dominate again with multiple WDC and WCC trophies.

That’s ultimately how F1 works. And the nationalistic and nostalgic pride adds in a component of perceived arrogance from Ferrari, but that’s really not what it is. It simply means that drivers will come and go, but fandom and passion for the team will always supersede its drivers.
