Actually, you’re proving my point.

In 1996, most pro bikes were still above XXX kg fully equipped — especially the aluminium and steel frames Riis used. That’s why the UCI later introduced the XXX kg minimum.

If his bike was even a bit lighter, it only strengthens the comparison — because Pogacar still climbed faster, in worse conditions, with more fatigue.
