Economic Resistance in Action: Yemen's Capital Breaks Free from Monetary Siege 🇾🇪

While most countries print their own currency as a symbol of sovereignty, Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, has had to fight for that basic right .. under blockade, without access to foreign printing facilities, and facing international condemnation. But now, it’s doing it anyway.

After minting XXX rial and XX rial coins to replace decaying paper notes, Sana’a has just released a new XXX rial banknote.. produced with high security standards. This is not about expanding the money supply or devaluing the currency. It’s about economic survival under siege.

These steps are targeted, cautious, and backed by fiscal discipline. They merely replace worn-out notes .. not create new cash flow .. and are aimed at keeping the economy functioning while preserving the value of the national currency.

Compare that to what the West calls “Yemen’s legitimate government”.. a term used mainly to justify Saudi and Emirati influence over southern Yemen.

That same “government” has printed hundreds of billions of rials in Russia, flooding its zones with unbacked cash and causing massive inflation and currency collapse.
The result? Extreme price hikes, unpaid salaries, and a plummeting rial in Aden and elsewhere.

But when Sana’a tries to responsibly manage the economy under impossible conditions.. issuing high-durability coins and a carefully measured XXX rial note .. it is immediately condemned by Washington and its allies. The hypocrisy is clear.

Russia prints its own money. India prints its own money. China prints its own money. The U.S. and UK obviously do, too.
But when Yemen .. a besieged country.. tries to manage its own currency without relying on foreign printing presses, it’s called “illegitimate” or “fake money.”

This isn’t just about currency. It’s about independence. Sovereignty. And refusing to let foreign powers dictate economic survival.

Yemenis in Sana’a are proving they can build resilience even under siege.. without oil exports, without foreign aid, and without international recognition. What they do have is will, vision, and a refusal to surrender their economic future.
