Some bats can live up to XX years, much longer than most animals their size, yet rarely develop cancer. A recent study from the University of Rochester found that bats may owe this resistance to a unique combination of genetic traits. Unlike humans, bats carry several copies of the p53 gene, which helps stop damaged cells from multiplying.
