Mehdi Hasan only moved to America in 2015 though. 

If I moved to America I wouldn’t think that I have as much claim to being American as somebody with four generations of family buried at Arlington. 

Both our conceptions are valid, we are just talking past each other because my conception of nationhood is more philosophically influenced by Burke whereas yours is philosophically influenced by Rawls.
