@AdamSinger Gas really isn't that much. 

I drive 6k miles per year with 32mpg. At $2.80, that's $XXX per year. And gas in XX years from now isn't the same as gas today (time value of money). 

And even with your numbers, I'm coming up at around $15-16k in gas, not $35k.
