Illusory Beliefs Fuel Risky Health Choices

Our beliefs about health strongly influence the decisions we make, but they’re not always grounded in science.

A new study of over XXXXX people found that belief in pseudoscientific ideas is linked to distrust of doctors and a preference for unvalidated alternative therapies.

While some Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practices are harmless, rejecting evidence-based care can delay diagnosis and increase health risks.

The researchers also identified protective factors, such as valuing science and feeling personally responsible for one’s health, which promote better choices.

These traits were associated with higher trust in professionals and more adherence to recommended practices.

Strengthening health literacy is crucial to counteract harmful illusory beliefs.
