Amazon has reportedly laid off several hundred employees from its AWS cloud division as it continues restructuring efforts influenced by artificial intelligence.

While the company didn’t disclose the exact number of job cuts, a spokesperson said roles were eliminated across specific teams as Amazon works to optimize resources and focus on innovation.

Among those affected were employees in the “specialists” group, who work closely with customers to develop cloud-based solutions. Several employees reported receiving termination emails and losing access to internal systems.

These layoffs come on the heels of CEO Andy Jassy’s recent comments suggesting AI would reduce the need for some roles across the company. Amazon is shifting focus and investing in areas where it expects future growth, particularly AI-driven services.

This latest round of cuts follows earlier layoffs in Amazon’s Books division, including at Goodreads and Kindle. Other departments like devices and services, Wondery, and the company’s retail communications teams have also been affected in recent months.

As AI technology becomes more capable, Amazon appears to be realigning its workforce to match the changing demands of its cloud and retail businesses. The shift reflects broader industry trends as tech companies invest in automation while scaling back traditional roles.
