When people say “inflation,” they usually mean CPI,  the Consumer Price Index.

It measures how much the average cost of living has changed over time.

Think: a basket of groceries, gas, rent, medical bills, clothes, and movie tickets. If that basket cost $XXX in 2021, and now costs $122, that’s XX% inflation.
