NECO is trending because Winifred is shocked to learn that there are people who didn’t write NECO exams after WAEC in secondary school.

So tweeps are telling her that, the National Examination Council exam is mostly a back up examination, which people take seriously only when they’re not very confident of their WAEC.

Because, WAEC usually comes first before NECO. So all resources would have been exhausted on WAEC. Most people who did it, till dater never checked their results.

Meanwhile there are people who wrote GCE — WAEC — NECO — JAMB. Plot twist, they still didn’t get into university. Most did though. GCE is more generic than NECO. Unfortunately, most people use it as mock exams for WAEC preparations.

Essentially, writing just WAEC signifies intelligence. However, there are people who do only NECO, due to certain conditions.

NECO is an SSCE exam, just like WAEC. WAEC is West African, while NECO is organized by Nigeria.

It isn’t generally accepted like WAEC, but suffices in most countries, not all institutions in US, UK and Canada accept it, they usually need a complementing examination certificate.
