James Gunn has revealed that the day Henry Cavill's return as Superman was publicly announced was the same day he and Peter Safran officially closed the deal to run DC Studios.

“The day our deal closed, all the sudden, they were announcing that Henry was back, and I'm like: What's going on? We know what the plan is. The plan was to come in and do Superman. It was really unfair to him and was a total bummer.”
