A $XX million sexual assault lawsuit filed against NFL Hall of Famer and ESPN personality Shannon Sharpe has been settled and will be dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled. The case was brought by a woman identified as Gabriella Zuniga (aka “Jane Doe”), who accused Sharpe of non-consensual sexual encounters and emotional abuse during what was described as a rocky relationship that began in early 2023. The lawsuit detailed two specific incidents in October 2024 and January 2025 in which she alleged Sharpe forced himself on her despite her saying no.

Sharpe and his legal team firmly denied all allegations, claiming the relationship was entirely consensual and that the plaintiff was attempting to extort him. His lawyers even alleged that the two had participated in role-playing scenarios, which were misconstrued as abusive. A reported $XX million settlement offer was made by Sharpe’s camp before the lawsuit went public, which was initially rejected.

As the case gained national attention, audio recordings and past accusations against Sharpe resurfaced, adding more scrutiny. However, the case was ultimately settled, and the plaintiff’s legal team acknowledged that the relationship had been consensual and long-term. Sharpe temporarily stepped back from his ESPN duties during the controversy but is expected to return soon now that the matter has been resolved legally.

This legal resolution does not erase the media storm or the reputational damage Sharpe faced, but it does close the door on what could have been a prolonged and public court battle.
