Jerome Powell defends $2.5B Fed HQ renovation 🏛️

After backlash from the White House and GOP lawmakers, Fed Chair Jerome Powell issued a detailed letter defending the costly overhaul of the central bank's D.C. headquarters.

• The buildings haven't seen a full renovation since the 1930s
• Powell says major structural repairs were necessary
• Criticized features like rooftop gardens & VIP elevators were either eliminated or never planned
• The Fed claims the project remains within the scope of NCPC's 2021 approval

Powell: “We take seriously the responsibility to be good stewards of public resources.”

Trump called the project “sort of” a fireable offense. But Powell insists the plan is on track and compliant.
