DeepBook. It came up in conversation about CLOBs recently (hot topic on CT these days) and wanted to learn a little bit more. So I dove in to the website and poked around their docs for a bit and found a few things to share that I found interesting. First and foremost is DeepBook enables protocol-level unified liquidity to exist on Sui. In normal human terms that means that any apps built using DeepBook all have access to the same bids and asks propagated through the protocol. But what does that *really* mean? This is very different than your typical AMM or other swap on something like Ethereum or Solana - in those cases, the application you're using (1inch, Uniswap, Raydium, etc) has an LP that's set up and generally established to only make calls on that specific application or swap. There's aggregators (Jupiter/DefiLlama/etc) that allow you to get best pricing/routing from among the available offerings, but suppose you wanted to make a very large transaction - you'd either have to push it through multiple transactions to avoid slippage across individual swap apps/AMMs, or you'd have to accept you weren't going to get great execution unless the asset has massive liquidity. With DeepBook - you don't have to choose. If you want to make a big move onchain, whatever frontend you're using that's built on top of DeepBook has access to the unified liquidity. Ultimately this means you've solved a lot of the liquidity fragmentation issues inherent with first generation EVM/SVM chains...and it means better prices, lower txn fees, and overall better execution for the user. I don't want to get too terribly long winded given the average attention span on CT these days, but I also wanted to flag these other three points: - DeepBook was incubated by Mysten Labs, so it has full institutional support from the actual creators of the Move language and Sui itself. That's a great stamp of legitimacy. - The protocol can incentivize liquidity provision and market making via rebates (through their token) not unlike the rebate model present on many CEXs. That sort of program doesn't exist on AMM DEXs. - *ALL* of the CLOB is onchain. Orders. Cancels. Fulfillments. Everything. So the entire history is auditable (if needed) and transparent for everyone to see, and since it's on Sui, it benefits from sub 400ms finality (which is pretty dang close to instant). What that leaves you with is a very performant fully onchain deep liquidity order book. There are a lot of ecosystem partners on Sui that have built on top of DeepBook and you'd never know it. It is integral to the DeFi scene, but I hadn't heard of it until recently. A bit of a departure from a lot of my application/"shiny new thing" content lately, but I'm really wanting to spend some time sharpening my technical knowledge on the newer generation chains that have popped up since I first spent a lot of time in the weeds from 2017-2020. I hope this has been interesting to you like it was for me while I was investigating. As part of my ongoing partnership with Sui, I think we may do some overviews/highlights of protocols and apps built on top of DeepBook over the coming weeks. Let me know if there's any in particular you're curious about. Until then - be well. -ico XXXXX engagements **Related Topics** [sui](/topic/sui) [dove](/topic/dove) [onchain](/topic/onchain) [Post Link](https://x.com/beast_ico/status/1946240432868147283)

Learning Onchain with ico (07.18.2025)
Today's topic?
But what does that really mean?
