hip hop was born in the south
Like all black American traditions
In the early 1900s through blues
Through gospel through Negro spirituals 
Jazz poetry juke joints etc

And later it migrated up north with those
Southern black Americans that took those musical and cultural elements with them to New York

And than immigrants from other countries added on to it and tried to claim it
