$AXP  American Express  reported a strong second-quarter performance, with  X% growth in cardmember spending, up from X% in Q1. Spending in  high-value categories surged, with business-class and first-class  airline seat purchases up XX% and lodging transactions over $XXXXX  rising 9%.  Amex added XXX million new cards and saw revenue grow X% to $XXXX  billion, surpassing expectations. Earnings per share (EPS) were $4.08,  down X% from the previous year, but adjusted EPS would have been up 17%.   Amex also reported strong demand for premium products and an increase in  card fees. Credit loss provisions grew slightly to $XXX billion, but  net write-offs improved to X% from XXX% YoY. Expenses rose 14%, driven  partly by increased travel-related benefits use.  Amex maintained its full-year outlook, targeting 8-10% revenue growth  and EPS between $XX and $XXXXX.
