Not all debts are created equal. 🇯🇵 Japan’s XXX% ratio looks scary, but 90%+ is domestically held — and BOJ is the biggest holder.

🇸🇬 Singapore borrows to invest via sovereign funds (GIC, Temasek).

On the other hand, 🇵🇰 Pakistan & 🇱🇦 Laos rely heavily on external debt, making them much more fragile.

🇨🇳 China's debt is rising but manageable thanks to state-controlled banks and closed capital flows.

🇮🇳 India’s fiscal deficit matters more than the debt stock — and it's narrowing.

Debt levels mean little without context: interest rates, currency strength, and who owns the debt matter more.
