But the reality is: – It’s £65m + £6m in add-ons – The add-ons are hard to reach – Deal is paid over X years, making it affordable now, which is what matters most!!!! – Market context: Madueke, Gittens, Elanga all went for £52–£55m Brentford also had no need to sell. They made good business elsewhere and were happy to keep him unless the right bid came in. You’re paying a premium for a Premier League-proven, versatile, hard-working attacker with X consistent seasons of top output. For me he was a £60m player and yes we have overpaid a bit, but in this market of Elanga, Gittens and Madueke having high fees all of a sudden £65m base fee isn't looking to awful. Brentford also had no need to sell. They made good business elsewhere and were happy to keep him unless the right bid came in.
