I don't think £70m for Mbeumo is as bad as people are making it out to be:
Yes, we waited four weeks and ultimately gave Brentford close to what they wanted, and it is a slight overpay.

But the reality is:
– It’s £65m + £6m in add-ons
– The add-ons are hard to reach
– Deal is paid over X years, making it affordable now, which is what matters most!!!!
– Market context: Madueke, Gittens, Elanga all went for £52–£55m

Brentford also had no need to sell. They made good business elsewhere and were happy to keep him unless the right bid came in.

For me he was a £60m player and yes we have overpaid a bit, but in this market of Elanga, Gittens and Madueke having high fees all of a sudden £65m base fee isn't looking to awful.
