The Acting Deputy Country Representative of UN Women Nigeria, Mrs. Patience Ekeoba, has called for increased domestic funding to enhance support for women living with HIV across the country.

Ekeoba made the appeal during an advocacy visit to the Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, alongside the Association of Women Living with HIV in Nigeria (ASWHAN), Delta chapter, in Asaba.

She urged the government, private sector, foundations, and charitable organisations to contribute to funding efforts that would ensure women living with HIV have access to vital healthcare, empowerment, and inclusion in governance processes.

“UN Women will continue to support ASWHAN in advocating for the rights of women living with HIV. Our partnership has spanned over eight years, during which we’ve provided technical and institutional assistance to strengthen their capacities,” Ekeoba said.

She disclosed that the organisation had developed an advocacy toolkit to help these women understand their rights and speak up for themselves. The advocacy training, supported by UN Women, convened representatives from XX Southern states to sharpen their advocacy skills and formulate state-specific action plans with defined goals and timelines.
