A cross-party resolution calling for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide has been introduced in the Dáil Éireann, the lower house of Ireland’s bicameral Parliament, according to the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD).

The resolution is backed by members of several political parties, including People Before Profit, Solidarity, Sinn Féin, the Social Democrats, and the Labour Party.

The text of the resolution emphasizes that the Turkish government’s continued denial of the 1915 Armenian Genocide not only hinders national reconciliation but also stands as a barrier to genuine democratic progress in Turkey.

The resolution calls on the Government of Ireland to take part in commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and to honor the memory of the XXX million victims. It also urges other governments around the world to formally recognize the Genocide.

In addition, the resolution proposes incorporating the history of the Armenian Genocide into school curricula within its accurate historical context and recommends the establishment of an International Day of Remembrance for its victims.

Welcoming the initiative, EAFJD President Kaspar Karampetian urged the Irish Parliament to adopt the resolution without delay.

“This resolution makes clear that recognizing genocide is not only essential to preventing future atrocities but also a fundamental right of the Armenian people in their pursuit of justice for their ancestors,” Karampetian stated.
