Use Debian and your on an old stable system 
Use Ubuntu and your on a broken old half modern system 
Use Fedora and you are the guinea pig 
Use Arch and just run anything on the latest versions
Use Gentoo and you're still compiling 
Use Suse and shoot yourself in the foot 
Use Redhat and pay for updates and support that never helps you with your issues

In the end you have to choose a desktop anyway
