On this date in 1938, daredevil pilot Douglas Corrigan landed in Dublin, Ireland on an "accidental" trans-Atlantic flight.
He had been cleared to fly from New York to California the previous day, yet claimed he got lost in the clouds.
The press and public tagged him "Wrong Way" Corrigan and he became an instant celebrity, with ticker-tape parades and a visit to the White House.
