He later became a bank treasurer and now runs a fertilizer company. He got the degree but his priorities changed. I think that we don’t understand creative and high agency people enough in our part of the world. Anyone who can make a first class in physics from UNIBEN is a high agency person. While I believe that we must always find ways to lift each other up, we should also be respectful of the choices people make. A friend had a first class in accounting but decided that she didn’t want to work in banking anymore and devote time to her kids. Her logic was that it was the same thing her mother did for them that enabled her to succeed. She is also another high agency person who will likely start something once the kids are grown. Many still don’t understand why I never went into banking till today when I had all the family advantages there. I just loved tech more. I had a first degree in biological sciences and decided not to go to medical school when I also had that opportunity. I got an MBA and did an MSc but decided to use the knowledge for my own business. I think we should support that fashion business with everything we can and see how it will thrive.
