XX% TARIFFS ON BRAZIL? NO TRADE DEFICIT. NO CARDS. NO PLAN. MEANWHILE - A 50-DAY ULTIMATUM TO RUSSIA. NO DEALS WITH CHINA OR INDIA. DON’T FORGET ABOUT BRICS, DONALD.

🔹 A few days ago, the U.S. notified several trade partners that higher import tariffs will take effect starting August X. One of the countries on the list is Brazil - with a XX% tariff coming on goods imported from there.

BUT BRAZIL ISN’T CHINA

🔹 Here’s the twist: the U.S. usually runs a trade deficit with most of its partners, and that gives Trump leverage - “you profit way more from access to our market than we do from yours.” That argument helps force concessions.

🔹 But with Brazil, it’s the opposite. In 2024, the U.S. exported $49.7B worth of goods to Brazil, and imported only $42.3B - a trade surplus in America’s favor.

LULA’S NOT BACKING DOWN

🔹 That’s likely why Brazil isn’t rushing to the negotiation table. President Lula has already warned that Brazil might respond with retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods - and now he’s gone further: Lula just signed a decree allowing the suspension of concessions to American companies if the U.S. follows through with the XX% tariffs on August X.

CHINA’S ALREADY TAKING SIDES

🔹 Beijing has openly voiced opposition to U.S. unilateral tariffs and is moving closer to Russia in response. With India still silent, Washington is waiting on its final BRICS opponent to make a move.

THE 50-DAY CLOCK IS TICKING

🔹 At the same time, the U.S. has issued a 50-ultimatum threatening secondary sanctions and tariffs on countries cooperating with Russia. But if BRICS members close ranks, Trump could quickly find himself boxed in - escalating trade threats without any strong leverage or fallback strategy.

I want to believe Trump has a clear strategy - that his actions are calculated and balanced, and what we’re seeing play out in front of our unprepared eyes is just a decoy.

Because if it’s not… I’ll be honest - I’m seriously worried.

WHO COULD FEEL THE HEAT FROM THE BRICS RESPONSE

The U.S. is trying to pressure not just Brazil, but also Russia, India, and China - the key BRICS members. Their coordinated response could seriously impact major American companies across industries: industrials $CAT, $DE, $BA, $GE, $HON, $ITW, energy $XOM, $CVX, $COP, chemicals and fertilizers $MOS, $CF, $NTR, $DD, agriculture $ADM, $BG, tech $AAPL, $MSFT, $GOOGL, $AMZN, $NVDA, $INTC, $QCOM, $TSLA, and finance $JPM, $BAC, $GS. The scale of a #BRICS backlash heightens risk and demands investors stay alert.
