@vibrantdad X tips, from my FIL (that has fixed appliances for a living for 30+ years)

Avoid appliances that also make phones, tvs, etc. 
I.e. Samsung, LG

And go with the Whirlpool corp products when you can.
I.e. Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchenaid
